Cottco introduces new communication facility to farmers

In a bid to improve communication with its farmers, Cottco is introducing a new two way communication platform. Through this facility, which uses the mobile telephone short messages system (sms), the company will send simultaneous information to its growers across the country, like dates for disbursement of inputs or any relevant agronomic advice.

This facility is also expected to become popular with famers since they can also give feed back directly to the company, be it complaints or enquiries, among other issues. As a result Cottco will be able to continuosly improve its service delivery system.

The major challenge in implementing this facility is the issue of cell phone ownership among cotton growers which is believed to be currently low, but the system’s advantages are expected to motivate more farmers to purchase handsets.



Cottco personnel have already embarked on a drive to register phone numbers of growers within their areas so that they can begin to benefit from the facility. The communication platform has been formulated in such a manner that a text message from a farmer will be directed to the relevant depot.

Cotton yields are also expected to be considerably boosted once maximum utilization of this facility is realized.
